Job Description:

Hospital Coding Manager – Remote

Plans, organizes and oversees the system Hospital Coding team encompassing inpatient and outpatient coders and analysts. Responsible for the daily operation of hospital coding and meeting key performance indicators. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely coding in compliance with billing, coding and documentation requirements for increased patient safety and accurate reimbursement. Supports coding systems (Optum Computer Assisted Coding, 3M Encoder, Epic processes) and maintains department policies, procedures and standards of work. Develops department goals and objectives in accordance with financial and organizational strategic plans. Works closely with revenue services departments, physicians/advanced practice providers, administrators, operations leaders, quality, clinical documentation integrity, and compliance. Manages hospital coding denials, quality, productivity and performance improvement activities.

QUALIFICATIONS (minimum requirements)

Education and/or years experience required:

  • Bachelors degree in health information management, business, finance, or a related field of study
  • 3 years demonstrated successful hospital coding management and reimbursement/revenue cycle experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of coding and reimbursement; ICD-10-CM and PCS, DRG models, Severity of Illness, Risk of

Mortality as well as CPT-4, HCPCS, APC/APG/EAPG models and HCCs.

  • Experience and knowledge in hospital-based EHR systems. Regulatory coding requirements, coding guidelines,

and compliance requirements. Experience with Epic, 3M Encoder, and Computer Assisted Coding, preferred.

Licensure/Certifications required:

  • RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator), RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician), or CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) required.
