Our Volunteer "Coffee" Categories:
Flavor Shot:
A coffee whose flavor characteristics stand out
*1 – 2 hours, and/or single activity
Decaffeinated:
Coffee free of caffeine… but tasty nonetheless
*3 – 15 hours per year, single and/or multiple activities based on project task
Regular:
The cup in which no characteristic overcomes the others; a combination which is pleasant and interesting
*15 – 40 hours per year, single/multiple activities based on project task
Espresso:
Espresso coffee is a blend of different types of coffee beans from different countries, is highly concentrated
*40 – 80 hours per year, leadership activities, accountability for product
Double Shot:
A standard in judging the espresso quality in barista competitions, Doppio is Italian, meaning "double"
*80+ hours per year, financial responsibilities, travel required, history of prior service

Advocacy Initiatives Educates members on being/becoming advocates regarding legislation that impacts HIM, participates in Capitol Hill Day. [Decaffeinated, Regular, Espresso] |
Annual Meeting Committee Designs, plans, coordinates and executes the annual meeting, to include coordinating speakers, vendor contacts and communications [Decaffeinated, Regular, Espresso] |
Annual Meeting Support Assists with making the annual meeting run smoothly, volunteers 1 to 2 hour shifts at the registration booth, the MHIMA booth/store, introducing speakers, as a silent auction monitor [Flavor shot, Decaffeinated] |
Attracting Students to HIM Committee Connects with regional high schools to arrange career-day visits / presentations by professionals in the field, makes contact with guidance counselors or health teachers, provides tool kit to support members visiting schools, creates awareness of HIM/HIT schools in MN, connects students to annual meeting activities. Coding Education via Roundtables Develops coding tool kits, presents roundtable education at regional meetings and at our state meeting [Decaffeinated, Regular] |
e-Health Initiatives Helps members determine what they need re: e-HIM, what it is, core competencies for e-HIM, related legislation, etc., develops e-HIM user links on our website, monitors and reports on REACH and Meaningful Use initiatives within Minnesota [Decaffeinated, Regular] |
Legal Manual Committee Plans, develops and updates our Legal Reference Manual for distribution bi-annually [Regular, Espresso] |
Legislative Activities Provides member education on how a bill becomes a law, enhances the MHIMA website Legislative Updates page with legislative activities, monitors legislation that impacts HIM [Decaffeinated, Regular] |
Lunch & Learn Presentations Develops and presents an hour-long online webinar education session on HIM related topics supporting our annual strategic work plan[Decaffeinated] |
Marketing/Communications Develops the website, develops and assists with Uplink material, promotes a unified branding aesthetic and works to expand member and volunteer involvement and member communications [Decaffeinated, Espresso] |
Uplink Article writing Write an original article for our monthly e-newsletter, Uplink, on any relevant HIM topic. Earn two CEUs for writing an article of approximately 500 words! [Flavor Shot] |
