Our History The Minnesota Health Information Management Association (MHIMA) is Minnesota's professional health information management association of over 1700 members. We were originally established on June 20, 1935 in Duluth, Minnesota as the State Record Librarians Association. Edna K. Huffman spoke at that organizational meeting. Our name was later changed to the Minnesota Medical Record Association, when we incorporated as a 501 (c)(6) not-for-profit corporation on March 10, 1976. Our name was officially changed to the Minnesota Health Information Management Association on Jan 1, 1992. We are a component state association affiliated with the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Membership in MHIMA has no separate state dues. Members of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) who select Minnesota as their state association are automatically a member of MHIMA.
